Current JCI opportunities in vocal jazz:
Vocal Jazz Workshop (Ages 16 through Adult)
Sat. Jan. 13 - Sat. Mar. 3, 2018. 2pm - 4pm
This 8-week workshop and final performance opportunity allows singers to come together weekly and work on developing their jazz skills and standards repertoire. Open to solo singers who are new to jazz as well as more experienced jazz singers who want to fine tune their sound or arrangements for performance. Run by jazz singer/songwriter Ashley Daneman, this course will be customized to its participants and cover a variety of topics: choosing songs and keys, song interpretation, jazz phrasing, forms, arranging ideas, making charts, musicianship, sitting in at jam sessions, and improvisation. Special guest and WMU Jazz Voice Professor Greg Jasperse will teach an introduction to scat singing on Feb. 10th. Every session is an opportunity to warm up, sing, and learn together in a supportive environment. Professional musicians will accompany you at our final performance on March 3rd. Class size is designed to be small - only 6 spaces are available. Fee is $250 and you may reserve your spot with $100 deposit. Please email Ashley if you have any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 202-276-3388.
